Elements of the program

COACHING AND MENTORING

Monthly 1:1 sessions between Fellows (“Mentors”) and Associates ("Students”) to facilitate career development and personal growth. Drawing on the expertise of the Fellow, Associates will develop their career plans, objectives and next steps.

Monthly 1:1 sessions with the creator of the program, Dr Ian Messenger.

GUEST LECTURES AND PRESENTATIONS

The financial crime space is constantly evolving and so must the financial crime professional. Hear from experts from industry and academia on current and emerging threats, hot topics, and risk areas.

KEY SKILLS

Complimenting the practitioner knowledge, Associates will learn the key skills required of the modern financial crime professional. These skills are especially relevant in the ever-changing financial crime space.

ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSIONS

Participate in roundtable discussions with industry leaders on topics of the day relevant to career development and emerging trends.

FACILITATED GROUP DISCUSSIONS

Join fellow Associates for group discussions on key topics related to financial crime and career development.

NETWORKING EVENTS

Meet likeminded Early Year financial crime professionals and develop a professional network. Meet industry insiders and thought-leaders.

Who is the program for?

Prospective Associates will

  • Have 1-4 years experience in a Financial Crime role OR

  • Be a recent University graduate with a degree related to Financial Crime

  • Be based in Canada

  • Be willing to commit to a 12 month program


What is the commitment?

  • Meet with your Fellow once a month

  • Meet with Dr Ian Messenger once a month

  • Participate in TWELVE presentations and lectures

  • Be open

  • Ask questions

  • Challenge yourself

  • Complete a paper on a financial crime topic at the end of the program

  • Consider being an Associate Fellow to final year University students


What and How will I learn?

In addition to a 12 month pairing with an industry leader for mentoring and coaching, each month focuses on one particular knowledge area and key skill required of the modern financial crime professional.

The program is delivered through a number of different channels and is designed to be highly interactive - it isn’t simply reading material and watching videos! On a monthly basis you will be meet with your Fellow to work through a series of mentoring and development objectives. Dr Ian Messenger, the program creator, will also check-in with you to see how you are progressing, collect feedback on the program, and learn from you where new content can be added.

Each month focuses on a specific aspect of financial crime which has been identified as a key knowledge area and contains recorded presentations related to the topic, a live facilitated group discussion and an open discussion forum. There will also be a number of live roundtables with industry leaders on a range of topics.

In addition to the financial crime knowledge building, each month will also examine one specific skill that is required of the financial crime professional.


The Investment

In order to deliver the program and provide quality programming, there is a minimal cost of CAD $250.

There are no additional expenses for the Associates.
