Introducing 2022 Associate - Shivam Khurania

 
 

I possess over five years of experience in Finance, Accounting, Consulting, Customer Service fields; knowledge of investment products and mutual funds; principles of investment financial planning. Furthermore, I am a CPA candidate. I have completed the Honors Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting at Lakehead University in 2021 and The Graduate Diploma in Professional Accounting (GDipPA) at the University of Toronto – Rotman School of Management in 2021.

I was born in New Delhi, India. Raised in Houston Texas, USA and currently living in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Currently, since August 2021 I work at Grant Thornton LLP, Vancouver, British Columbia, as an Associate with the Risk and Forensics team. Where I am Planning, executing and reporting on a variety of risk-based and forensic engagements, including:

• Internal Audit (financial, operational and compliance).

• Forensic Investigations and Litigation Support

• Identifying areas of risk and internal controls

• Performing design and operational effectiveness reviews

• Evaluating findings and providing recommendations to stakeholders

• Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (i.e., SOX / NI 52-109 CEO/ CFO Certification).

• Developing internal control documentation, e.g., narratives and flowcharts

• Enterprise Risk Management

I also am the VP Finance of Delta Epsilon Psi Fraternity Inc, New York USA – where I manage the finances for 52 chapters across the USA and consult them on governance related issues. I have given many financial literacy webinars sponsored by National Bank, CFEE The Canadian Foundation for Economic Education https://cfee.org/ , presented my research on financial literacy in New York (virtually), I was on a venture capital board as a board of director https://www.thunderbayventures.com/, Advisor to a Fin Tech company where we manage SEC filings and do analytical projections on company financials https://xinervatech.com/. Additionally, I also sit on the Specialized Programs Graduate Committee at the University of Toronto – Rotman School of Management where I am the student representative for the MBA, MMA, MFA and the GDipPA program. Also, sat on the board of a Venture Capital – Community Futures Development Corporation – Thunder Bay Ventures where I was active in the investment, governance and program committees.

I’ve also worked as a student researcher for Dr. ShiKui Wu, who teaches information systems and operations management at the bachelor’s and master’s level. With constant exposure to the subject material, I was able to successfully research under his supervision on the public procurement system of The Government of Canada and how small medium-size enterprises (SME’s) can leverage themselves to increase their revenues on the public portal of The Government of Canada. I learned under his mentorship how to analyze large datasets on advanced analytical software tools such as Tableau and Microsoft Excel.
